Today I’ve been playing with a legend! I did my first Josh Groban gig at the O2, to 17,000 adoring female fans. What a crowd! It was such fun, and I’ll be playing with him over the next couple of weeks as part of his UK tour.
One of the most rewarding and enjoyable parts of my job is teaching. Three of my favourite students are Zach, Tom and Jo (aged 11, 8 and 6). We worked together to write a piece of film music, experimenting with all sorts of instruments, drum machines and iPad sounds and recording them to create a soundtrack from a piece of 1950’s b-movie footage. Here it is.
One of our favourite moments happened when Jo tried to play my flugal horn. The resulting sound turned the terrifying robot attacker into something rather more, err, flatulent. Here he is, in all his trumpy glory.
What an amazing day I’ve had. I’ve recently been asked to be involved with an incredible project, run by an organization called Magic Me. The project involves working with people of different generations to create music and tell stories. I’ve been working with children from a local school and Pat Shaw Care home in East London, playing my viola and accompanying lots of wonderful songs and poetry that the groups have been creating. It was such a moving day and I met some wonderful characters who had all sorts of incredible stories and insights to offer us all.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
