Bloody hell fire. I've just spent the last week working with the amazing, bonkers, incredible Ron and Russ Mael, aka Sparks, rehearsing an orchestral performance of 'Kimono My House', plus some of their big hits. Aside from the arrangements being an absolute killer to play (see the pained faces of the musicians in the footage below) they were resplendently fantastic and great to work with. What a great way to end the year!
I've been donning the obligatory 17 tonnes of makeup tonight to perform with Sam Smith on the X Factor final. That fella really has quite a voice! Here's some shaky amateur footage of the event:
I've just done an epic gig with the strings of the Heritage Orchestra and the amazing Anna Calvi in a church in Hackney. She's such a rocking guitarist and performance and the whole thing was incredibly atmospheric.
I've just returned from a fantastic first performance of Shane Solanki's 'Superheroines I have Known and Loved', for which I wrote and arranged the music. It is a show written and performed by Shane which looks at gender equality from a man’s perspective. A book was produced to accompany the show, which featured illustration by Eugenia Loli. The book was edited by Raul San Mateo, and illustrated by Louise Mazmanian. Documentation, including music recorded from the show, and a PDF of the accompanying book, can be found by clicking here.
Yup, it's that time of year again. I'm off to play with Michael Bublé in a series of sell-out arena shows. Let the crooning commence!
